With more and more moms to be embracing a minimalist lifestyle and wanting to live a simpler life, it’s time to have a real conversation about what a mom to be really needs for a new baby. The chances are, you don’t need nearly as much for your new baby as you think you do! Go ahead and look at a parenting magazine, and you will see companies trying to sell you hundreds and hundreds of products for your new baby. Scroll through your social media feeds and you will see parents to be stocking up on new baby “essentials”, packing their closets, garages and nurseries as full as they can get with the latest and greatest baby products on the market. But, don’t be fooled, they don’t know what you need! Read on for a list of the real essentials of what you need for a new baby, without all the hype and the junk!

Babies are simple little creatures, no doubt about that. In fact, what babies actually “need” to grow up healthy and happy is pretty darn simple. Babies need love, of course, and the best part of all is that LOVE is FREE! So, right off the bat, you already have the most important thing that your baby needs! Your baby also will need a few very basic things: a way to eat, a place to sleep, something to wear, a way of diapering, and really, that’s pretty much it!The rest is just extra! The wipe warmers, pacifier holders, pretty bows, baby bathtubs shaped like frogs, bouncers, swings, etc, the list goes on and on and on! So, how to get there? How to succeed on the road to minimal mommyhood? Read on!

A way to eat? Now, that’s pretty simple! If you are breastfeeding, then it’s pretty obvious of how your baby will be eating, and there’s really not much more to it than that! If you are choosing to bottle feed, you will need formula and bottles, but even then, just a few will do, and you can wash them and reuse them, so, no need to stock up on tons of them! When it comes to a place to sleep, that can be really simple as well. Many minimalist moms choose to co-sleep, and that is perfectly fine, and is just about as minimal as you can get! If that’s not for you, go ahead and choose a playpen, bassinet, or crib. You don’t need all three, and you can choose a portable or “mini” one if you would like. There are so many different beds and bassinets on the market today, and you can get ones that are easy to store and easy to move when you need to!

What about something to wear? Oh, yes, you can outfit your baby with tons and tons of new outfits, fancy ones, more expensive than the ones you wear yourself! But, that’s not necessary! Just grab a few soft cotton outfits, onesies, or sleepers for your little one. You won’t need many, and they don’t have to be fancy or expensive, just pick what you like! As for diapers, if you choose to cloth diaper, you won’t need to spend much money, just an initial investment for the diapers. If you do choose to use disposables, it’s not a big deal, and you don’t have to buy boxes on boxes on boxes of diapers, you can just get a box at a time, and buy more when you need them!

These are the absolute basics of everything you will need for your new baby. Of course, there are literally thousands of other products that you can get for your baby, but that pretty much covers the absolute basics! Never feel bad about what you feel like you need for your baby, and feel free to purchase or choose anything that brings you joy or makes your heart happy as far as your babies are concerned! Minimal moms, rejoice! This is your time, and it’s now “chic” to be minimal! So, really, no pressure if buying tons and tons and tons of baby stuff is just not your thing! Buy what you want, get what you like, and don’t worry too much about having the “latest and greatest” when it comes to baby gear! Good luck on your minimal mommy journey! Stay strong, and stay the course, and don’t give in to all of the consumerism we see today! Your life will be much more peaceful!
